If you’re curious about the MFA, or want to talk about whether the program is the right home for your writing, I warmly welcome you to reach out. Please feel free to contact me directly.
As Director of the MFA in Creative Writing at Drexel University, I have the privilege of shaping a dynamic, community-centered graduate program designed for writers who are curious, ambitious, and committed to the power of story.
Our MFA is built around a philosophy I hold deeply: we educate the whole writer. That means coupling rigorous craft instruction with meaningful, hands-on engagement with the publishing world. Drexel’s low-residency model gives students direct access to industry—through mentorship, intensive residencies, and in-person opportunities to meet agents, editors, and publishers during our New York City residency.
I believe wholeheartedly that craft and career are not in opposition; writers thrive when they develop both their artistic voice and their understanding of the professional landscape.
The program also offers optional international writing retreats, including experiences in France and Costa Rica, giving our community opportunities to write, connect, and grow far beyond the classroom.
Just as importantly, the Drexel MFA is designed to be a lifelong literary community. Long after graduation, students and alumni stay connected through craft talks, writing accountability groups, alumni events, and shared creative projects. We believe that writers flourish in community – and we are committed to nurturing that connection for years to come.
Teaching is one of the great joys of my life, and directing the MFA allows me to support emerging writers as they experiment, take risks, refine their craft, and step with confidence into the literary world. It is an honor to guide a program built on ambition, generosity, and the transformative power of story.
